In Denmark, the little country of 5.6 billion people, we throw 50-70 billion tons of dead fish back into the sea, EVERY DAY!

Why? Because the fishermen, who is incredibly efficient these days, may only bring certain quotas of specific fish back into habour. Since the fish do not know that the fishermen catch different, and too many fish. The fish off course die getting trawled up in scoops of several tons a dip, thus ending up in the sea as fresh, edible, dead fish waste.

Who makes the quotas? EU. This is not just a Danish problem, these quotas affect fishermen within the whole EU. The quota-system is a way to assure that there is not twist in the competition among fishermen within EU. So what we get is that those fishermen who fish too little get bigger quotas, and those who catch too much kill million of fish every day, for no reason at all.

Will it change? Not withing the first few years. Some countries actually benefit from this and will not desire a change, slowing the success of a change in the laws. And even a change in the laws take years.

But do the fishermen not whine about being allowed to fish too little and too little fish to fish? Yes. We overfish the sea with our super effective trawlers destroying echosystems for profit, but only to fullfill the quotas that have been given. The rest of the fish is sharkbait and get thrown overboard to avoid fines when returning to the harbours.

So the paradox is: we overfish the sea to throw the fish out.

This is only one example of waste. Our " effeciency" overproduce tons of crops going to waiste as well. The same rules for quotas applies. Crops is burned og destroyed becuase it is stored too long and not allowed on the market since it will destroy the trade balance.

I do not understand why we have to destroy the natural resources to keep up the Production-monster. Production meens "progress", the mantra of our politicians, but it leads nowhere fast, and I do not understand it.
